UPDATE: While the tournament did not take place last year due to the ongoing global pandemic it is still planned to go forward in the future so long as a venue for it exists. For that to happen it is important that we all stay safe out there and do our part to ensure that we can meet up and continue to celebrate Marlene’s memory and women in the industry.

The Marlene Dowdle Memorial Tournament takes place annually at the PEI International Shellfish Festival and is a female only tournament for shuckers. The prize for the fastest woman shucker is $1,000 and a commemorative trophy.

This tournament was started to honor the memory of Marlene Dowdle and also raise awareness and support for women in the fishing industry. Marlene loved the PEI Shellfish Festival and we, her family could think of no better way to honor her memory.
